Our Activities Our club really does offer something for everyone – whether you are interested in making
new friends, learning about the local community, being involved with service projects, or getting involved in activities you
enjoy or would like to try for the first time. Read on for more details!
Art Group If you’ve always wanted to try drawing or if you haven’t drawn
since high school, why not spend some time with like-minded, creative souls? You may choose to draw a still
life or a model that we have chosen or you can bring whatever you are working on. We meet the second and
fourth Thursday mornings of the month.
Bargain Hunters Bargain Hunters are our members who love to shop but not to pay full price. Who wouldn't? Group
emails are sent when a bargain, sale, or great buy is found. Occasionally, carpools of shoppers are organized to really
special events! Bay Area Connection Join us as we explore the
Bay Area. Each month we offer day trips to various locations, from Danville to San Francisco and beyond. We are
a friendly group and new members are always welcome. Bon Appétit The
hostess and Bon Appétit Committee meets monthly to decide on a theme, prepare a menu with recipes, and plan table settings
and decorations. Later in the month, each committee member brings a dish and enjoys lunch with other Newcomers Club
members at the hostess' home. Everyone leaves having eaten well and having had fun chatting with others - and with recipes
to share with their family.
Book Group
Enjoy a very friendly, low key get-together for the purpose of discussing
a pre-chosen book, whether it be fiction, non-fiction, or biography. We meet on the third Friday of the month
to share our reading experiences and thoughts on the selection we’ve just read, and then digress in many directions,
including nominations of books for the coming months.

Bowling Our
league meets and bowls three games at the Danville Bowl every Monday at 9:30am except on school holidays. We
usually finish around noon and go for lunch afterwards. We welcome regular bowlers and substitutes, as
well as all levels of skill. Bridge – Couples & Daytime Join us for a friendly game of bridge. We have
two groups. The couples’ group brings a hearty hors d’oeuvre and usually meets on the third
Saturday of each month in the evening. The daytime group brings a brown bag lunch and plays from 9:30am
till around 2:00pm usually on the third Tuesday of the month. Both groups welcome new players. Canasta This
is an easy to learn, fun card game. Our group meets the fourth Tuesday of the month, beginning at 9:30am
with a light brunch and coffee provided by the hostess. We play until noon when we break for a brown bag
lunch (bring your own) and dessert (provided). Those who are able then stay for the afternoon.
Dinner for Eight This is a couples’ dinner activity with the focus on enjoying good food and each other’s
company. Four couples meet monthly for dinner at the host couple’s home. The host
couple arranges the menu and the date. The guests are assigned hors d’oeuvres, salad or dessert,
and each couple brings a bottle of wine to share. Single members are welcome to bring a friend or significant
other. Euchre Euchre
is a card game played mostly in the Mid-West, but we’re bringing it to California! Using a 24 card
deck, it is easily learned. We are a fun group that meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month, beginning
at 1:00pm. We always have a good time. Try it; you’ll like it!
Foreign Films We typically
meet on the fourth Wednesday evening of the month and carpool to a theater for a foreign film. Spouses,
significant others or visitors are always welcome to attend. FYI This
is the vehicle by which all sorts of useful and interesting information is communicated to members. Things
to sell, news of upcoming events, requests for recommendations – you name it, we FYI it! Members
are automatically included in the email distribution list for FYI messages unless they decide to opt-out. Golf A great way to enjoy the outdoors! All levels of players are welcome to join
us for golf instruction and limited play. We meet on Thursdays from 9:00 to 10:00am.

Hiking – Babes in Boots We join the local hiking group – Babes in Boots – every
Wednesday from 9:00am until around 3:00pm. New hikers are always welcome. International It’s about the trips we’ve taken, the
places we’ve lived and those we dream about seeing. Whether you wish to share your experiences, meet
fellow travelers or listen for ideas, everyone is invited to attend. We meet at various members’
houses on the second Friday of the month. Luncheons Luncheons are generally held on the second Tuesday of each month, September through May, at different East Bay
restaurants. We begin with a social hour, followed by a delicious lunch. We then enjoy
a program which may be an activity or a speaker. Topics vary every month and are picked to entertain or
enlighten. Mah Jong Whether you already play or would like to learn, please join us for a non-taxing game in the
company of friends. No experience or equipment is needed. We have two groups.
One meets monthly on a Wednesday morning, the other meets twice monthly at 6:45pm.
Monday Night Movies If you enjoy
keeping up on the latest movies or just want to get out of the house occasionally, this is the activity for you.
We meet on Monday nights around 7:00pm. New members, spouses, and friends are always welcome to
attend. Munch and MovieThe fourth Friday
of the month finds this group meeting for an early matinee of a newly released movie. We usually have lunch
together, either before or after the movie, depending upon the show time.
Recipe Exchange We are a
friendly group of cooks (we like food!) who get together once a month to share food with a theme, exchange recipes, and enjoy
each others’ company. We meet on the third Thursday of the month in the home of a different group
member each month.
SOS It's how we help each other! Who
would you call in a sudden emergency? Hopefully our members will never need this list, but we never know when help will
be needed. SOS is a group of members who have volunteered to help out fellow members in such a situation. New volunteers
are always appreciated.
Special Events Join the Newcomers
for a variety of fun outings and special events. Throughout the year, we may schedule parties, day trips, and even overnight
breaks. This is a great time to introduce your spouse or guest to our club! Welcome Coffees Open to all who are thinking of joining the club as well as our current members. This
casual get-together is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the many facets of Newcomers while enjoying coffee and
munchies with friends. The coffees are typically held monthly on the fourth Thursday.
Wine Tasting We meet most
months to sample wines with various themes. The tasting may be of a certain type of wine (or champagne), from a specific winery,
or part of a creative theme. We contribute to the cost of the wine and bring either an appetizer or a dessert. Non-drinkers
are also invited to join in the fun at no charge.
Friends of the Community It’s
how we give back!
Bay Area Crisis Nursery The Bay Area Crisis Nursery was established in 1981 in Concord as a non-profit residential
care facility for children up to the age of 11. The children are cared for in a loving environment while
parents, who are unable to cope during periods of stress or crisis, get help and support. Some of our members
choose to donate their time to this worthwhile cause that we are proud to support. Doll Project
Join
us to make dolls and quilts for Oakland Children’s Hospital. Help is needed cutting, stuffing, sewing,
and dressing the dolls. Sewing skills are not necessary. Come for all or part of the
day on the last Wednesday of the month. A light lunch is usually provided. Osage Park Rose Garden From May to October, we deadhead the roses at Osage Park. It
is a restful morning among the flowers, chatting with friends. Everyone is welcome and no experience is
necessary. We meet every Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00am.
